Standard Bank Card Division is pleased to announce the appointment of Ebrahim Matthews as Managing Director of Diners Club (SA). The Diners Club franchise in South Africa is owned by Standard Bank and specialises in the charge card business for both the corporate and personal markets.
Mr Matthews who has held various critical roles with other banking institutions joined Standard Bank four years ago. He has been responsible for various card portfolios including Bluebean, Edcon, British Airways and Co-brands as well as the commercial card portfolio.

Asked about the challenges of running the Diners Club charge card business, Mr Matthews said  that he would take some time to understand the business, and see how best to draw synergies between Standard Bank and Diners Club.
“I am excited and optimistic about Diners Club’s growth prospects. Diners Club, though a niche business, has been profitable for a number of years, enjoying a firm place within the card division’s bottom line,” he said.
Under the leadership of Leila Fourie, Head: Credit Card, Mr Matthews will manage both Diners Club and some of his currently held portfolios within Standard Bank Card.
His predecessor and colleague, Linda Manzini has been appointed to Standard Bank’s Corporate and Investment Banking as head of Coverage in South Africa.
